The Best Places to Stay in Orlando Florida

Orlando Florida has seven distinct areas that vacationers can use as a home base for visiting the many theme parks and recreational spots in the county. Making a choice of where to stay can be quite a daunting task, so here are some tips that may help you choose the optimum lodging that will suit your vacation needs (and budget) during your stay in the world’s family entertainment capital.

South of Disney World (Kissimmee area – Highway 192)

The historic town of Kissimmee has been a well-known destination for many tourists visiting Orlando. With its numerous restaurants, bed & breakfasts, vacation condos, golf courses, and family attractions, many vacationers consider this area an excellent one for finding lodging. Hotel prices here are less expensive when compared to hotels in the other areas. However, many of the structures are aging as most were built in the late 70’s. Few of the hotels here are connected with national chains.

North of Disney World

Also known as the Lake Buena Vista area, this is the newest location for places to stay in Orlando County and is managed by the Walt Disney Corporation. The hotels here were built starting in the early 1990’s to the present and are mostly associated with the national hotel chains. The Lake Buena Vista area hosts great shopping and dining within a few miles radius.

Disney World’s Resort Properties

For Disney aficionados, the resort itself is would probably be the best option for a good hotel. By definition, it will be closest to Disney World attractions and the free shuttle service to the parks runs at least every half hour. All Disney World hotels are managed to the highest standards, so there is a high probability for an excellent stay. On the downside, these hotel rooms only allow up to four people to a single room and the cost compared to hotels outside Disney World confines can be almost double. There is always a price to be paid for location and convenience.

Universal Studios Area

While there are also some good options for lodging in the Universal Studios area, there are not nearly as many choices as other areas of Orlando County. The lack of competition results in prices that are not really that attractive.

Downtown Orlando

An Orlando vacation means visiting the theme parks and beautiful attractions that this region has to offer. Most likely, you will not enjoy the traffic hassles of long trips from downtown to the theme parks – not to mention the time that you will be wasting traveling thirty minutes or more to and from Disney World each day. There are just too many good alternatives to staying downtown.

Orlando County Convention Center Area

Only a few minutes from SeaWorld, this area can be a good choice for those who will be going primarily to that park. However, the prices here are a little more expensive while the amenities offered by the hotels are mostly geared for business travelers than for families. This area is a natural choice for those combining business with a vacation.

SeaWorld (International Drive) Area

The International Drive area near SeaWorld is our favorite area to stay in when vacationing with young children. The number of quality “villa resorts” in the area is the reason. For the same price as an upscale hotel room, you can be in a two bedroom villa with full kitchen, living room, whirlpool bath and screened-in veranda. These resorts have lakes, pools, activity centers and other amenities that children (and adults) love. You will be especially appreciative of these resorts if you have some non-park days on your itinerary.

The Greater Orlando area offers a large variety of hotel and lodging options. By reviewing the different choices described in this article, you will be well on your way to making the right decision for a great Orlando vacation!

Pennsylvania Environmental and Recycling Update

Pennsylvania Environmental and Recycling Update

Pennsylvania is a crossroads state, the northern side of the Mason-Dixon line. Philadelphia, in the east, is part of the sprawling Northeast Atlantic Coast megalopolis which runs from DC to Boston. On the West, Pittsburgh is part of the so-called Rust Belt, the Industrial Midwest. In between is an expansive agricultural zone, home to the Amish as well as much of this country’s agriculture. Environmental concerns have increased in Pennsylvania along with the rest of the United States, and auto recycling and salvage is a significant component of all that. Here’s the latest environmental and recycling news from the Quaker State.

Recycling Improves in Pittsburgh

The famous steel city, Pittsburgh has made the jump from heavy industry to high tech—some of the most innovative technology in the world comes from Western PA’s big city and its universities. Still, despite all this invention and creativity, Pittsburgh has been somewhat behind in terms of recycling. The Pennsylvania Resources Council aims to change that.

The PRC is a longstanding environmental organization in Ohio, one of the state’s biggest advocates for recycling and other ecological programs. They have recently deployed a program to simplify and promote recycling in the city called “Zero Waste Pittsburgh.” Among the most innovative features: recycling audits for businesses and homeowners, and recycling for common hazardous materials like Cathode Ray Tube monitors and TVs, other electronics and compact fluorescent light bulbs.

State, Activists Join Forces to Turn Golf Green

Golf courses have been anathema to environmental activists for years. The sprawling links consume inordinate levels of water, an increasingly scarce resource. And the only way to keep the greens green is with kilos of toxic chemicals. The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection recently directed one of the state’s most prominent environmental groups—the Pennsylvania Environmental Council—to produce a guide for green golf course development and maintenance, a survey released this month to the public.

With input from an environmental consultant, the guide promises to be of use to local government and green-minded course developers around the country. Among its most valuable ideas is the use of native vegetation to reduce water usage, a strategy used by homeowners everywhere now. They also outline ways to preserving floodplains, streams, creeks and other watershed areas often damaged by courses.

Three Mile Island Nuclear Reactor Passes Environmental Review

Three Mile Island has been synonymous with nuclear disaster ever since a partial meltdown in 1979 created the nation’s closest nuclear power close call. No new nuclear plants have opened since, though several have begun construction in recent years. With new management, the environmental activist bugaboo still operates today.

As part of the renewal process of its 20 year permit, the plant submitted to an environmental review from the federal Nuclear Regulatory Commission this year, and was given a clean bill of health this month. The permitting process rolls along, expected to be finished by the time their current permit expires in 2014, but Pennsylvania residents are glad to know things are safer at Three Mile Island.

Waste water management- recycling of water for better future of life on the face of the Earth

Wastewater includes human wastes, oil, industrial wastes, and chemicals. Industrial and domestic waste water can cause ‘eutrophication’ problems in rivers and coastal waters. Aquatic life in rivers can also be threatened due to continued water pollution. Accordingly, Waste water recycling is an important process, which includes different kinds of waste water equipment, such as oil water separators or water oil separator and other wastewater treatment equipment.  There are various waste water treatment systems, such as Industrial solutions, Aquatic and Leisure solutions, and Municipal solutions etc. which help in waste water recycling.

A waste water treatment procedure varies with the type of contaminated water. For example, Industrial waste water from refineries, petrochemical and chemical plants contains dangerous chemicals and oils. Oil water separators are used to separate the oil and suspended solids from their waste water effluents.

Water containing toxic materials like zinc, silver, thallium etc is purified by changing the pH of the metal or by treatment with other chemicals. Biochemical processes are also used for purifying sewage and industrial waste water .In this process oxygen is mixed into the waste water with the help of an aeration tank and then the organic pollutants are biologically oxidized due to which a waste sludge is produced containing the oxidized material. Once the waste sludge is settled in the clarifier or settling tank part of it is recycled to the aeration tank and the remaining is removed for further treatment.

Distillation, Nitrifications, and Advance oxidation processes are some of the other water treatment systems used to clean water, which are contaminated with paints, pesticides, pharmaceuticals etc. Another important wastewater treatment is ultra filtration, which is used to separate bacteria, virus and other suspended particles from water. In this process, membranes with small pores are used. The size of pores ranges between 1-100nm.Water is passed through these filters and the membranes within the filter purify the water by holding the waste particles and allowing the remaining water to pass through it.

Other than the basic processes of water purification Primary and Tertiary treatments are also involved in waste water treatment .Screening for the removal of things such as paper, plastic, and removal of solids is Primary treatment. Tertiary treatment consist chlorinating, filtration, oil and water separator, and ultraviolet radiation.

In the end, its indeed fantastic to know that there are so many waste water treatment systems and waste water equipment with the help of which used water can be recycled and reused towards water saving, as well as, helping future generations from sufferings owing to lack of water/ water impurities.
